I had the good fortune of visiting Puerto Rico over the winter holiday. It was my first trip to the enchanted jewel and it was amazing! I hadn’t been in a rain forest in several years, and hiking El Yunque was incredibly nostalgic for me. The flora and fauna were beautiful and I felt incredibly peaceful during the hike. Overall, we stayed in three different places, Luquillo (northeastern PR), Ricón (west/northwestern PR), and Cabo Rojo (southwestern PR). Each place had its own unique personality and we quickly fell in love with each of our destinations. We felt instantly at home in each place, from the hip apartment we snagged off AirBnB in Luquillo to the secluded cabin on a private lake in Cabo Rojo. While we were there for our friends’ wedding, I made a little time for birding and hiking—of course. We saw over 60 unique species of birds while on the island and I added 26 birds to my life list! Be sure to check out my photography page for some of the highlights!
